Bradford Brinton Memorial & Museum

I don’t think I have mentioned how windy it is here. For most of the day it is very calm with just a slight breeze, but it seems like every evening the winds blow in. One evening there were gusts up to 60 miles per hour. That’s what the winds were that tore our roof up, so I get a little nervous when they are that high. So far, no damage.

Yesterday was a stay-at-home day. I had more laundry to get caught up on, and wanted to switch out my bed clothes. I have a beautiful brown bedspread that I got with the RV, and it matches all materials used in the RV, but it is the hardest dam spread in the world to get on the bed. It is fitted, and you all know how much room you have to make your bed, in a fifth wheel. I really feel like this is what keeps wrenching my back. So, I washed the spread and shams, and put on a quilt that my best Buddy made for me a few years back. It is much easier to handle.

After I got through tangling with the bedspreads, Donnie started on the job of switching out the day/night shades in the bedroom. The one behind the makeup table, which I never used or ever would use, sits behind his TV now, and is in perfect working order. The day/night shade over our bedroom window broke a couple of months ago and we haven’t been able to fix it. We have been propping it up sideways to use the window for fresh air, but this really looks tacky, and I was wanting to get them changed. His TV is too big for the TV shelf, so we sit it on the makeup table, and the shade behind it is never used anyway. So, he did get that done, after much grumbling and complaining. I would love to get a different type of shades in here, but I love the way these look.

After getting these couple of chores done, Donnie took the truck down to get the windshield fixed, and to get a haircut. After he got back, I went out and looked, and couldn’t find where the break was. This guy did a fabulous job. Not so with his haircut, it is horrible. I went to Wal*Mart this morning to get mine cut, which I said I would never do again, and they were closed for remodeling. I think someone was trying to tell me to go elsewhere. I am really not that picky, I just like a good short cut.

One of the blogs I read, yesterday mentioned a site you could go into and download a free picture program. It is called Autostitch, and you are supposed to be able to stitch your pictures together to make a panoramic photo. I couldn’t, for the life of me, get this to work. I tried everything. She also mentioned to me about a program for windows called Windows Live Writer, but couldn’t get that to work either. I keep getting error boxes coming up, so I am wondering if these programs are compatible with Windows 7? I am probably doing something wrong, but I just don’t know what.

We took our walk this morning, in 65* weather, and then decided to do a little exploring. We had taken a drive out 87 a few days ago, to a small town, Big Horn. We saw the sign about the Museum and decided to go back, and today was the day. Although you can’t take any pictures on the inside of the 2 large buildings(Brinton home, and Museum), I did get some pictures of the outside. These ground are beautiful, and immaculate. They had a crew working outside while we were there, but they try hard to stay in the background.

The Bradford Brinton Memorial was created through the will of Helen Brinton (1874-1960) as a memorial to her beloved brother Bradford Brinton (1880-1936), who originally purchased the ranch known as the Quarter Circle A from William Moncreiffe in 1923. Mr. Brinton used this ranch for a vacation home and as a repository for the bulk of his collection of Western art including works by Russell, Remington, Borein and F.T. Johnson, Native American Artifacts, rare books and documents such as an original Lincoln letter and Washington document along with fine furnishings and other decorative art objects. Upon Bradford’s death Helen inherited the ranch and kept her brother’s collection intact .

Love this virgina Creeper.

Bunk House.

Adorable old truck.

Beautiful grounds.

A Tee Pee on the grounds.

There are some breath-taking pieces of art in his many collections, and we really enjoyed walking through these two buildings. Winifred, our Docent sure knew her stuff, and she was also a hoot just to talk to. She had on a pair of shoes similar to mine, only hers were $300.00 and mine were $30.00. We are supposed to be getting tighter butts and stronger legs by wearing these shoes, and she said her butt better be clear up her back after paying that much for her shoes.

Just to let the family know, Uncle Boone is being moved to a Nursing home today for rehab, and they were able to get him into the one close to Charlotte’s house. We are really happy about that.

I don't know how well this will work because I haven't tried loading any pictures yet, but I will try to load some from today, and I have a picture of our dog, Cujo that lives with our son Jason in Steamboat Springs now, that I want to share with you.

Stay safe... :)

This blog site is much easier on the eyes! Once you get Live Writer going, you'll be able to put the pictures anywhere you want them. :)

I have been reading your blog for a year. I really like your philosophy of going off the beaten track. My husband and I plan to start full timing in about a year. We love to eat out for breakfast and always go for mom & pop eaterys. Please post Uncle Boone's address at the nursing home. Keep up the good work, this blog site is a winner. Anne,

Thank you so much for your comment. I really don't have anything against mytripjournal, its just that they don't have all the bells and whistles that this site does.

If you have any questions about this lifestyle, please don't hesitate to ask. We love it, and will continue until age or health stops us. You meet so many nice people along the way.

I will try to get Uncle Boone's address up tomorrow, and thanks for that request. He is very Dear to our family.

Again, thanks for your note, it is much appreciated. Pidge

Please check out Rick's blog ((Rick & Paulette's RV Travels) for the past few days for the Autostich instructions, and probably the last 2 months or so for LiveWriter. Rick uses Windows 7, and his way of showing you how to use a program, what screens you will come to and what you should click, etc., are much better even than a User Guide.

If you still find a problem, just leave a comment on his blog and ask him - he is wonderfully patient, extremely knowledgeable, and I know you can get all the info you need from him.

Just caught up with your blog and look forward to reading about your travels. I went to your first journal (My Trip Journal) and will read there as well. We used My Trip Journal for a while this past year but found we were having trouble downloading pictures and it was taking all evening getting it published. It could be our air card plan...don't know. We do like blogger and enjoy the creativity you can use with it. Your blog looks very nice!

We started full-timing a year ago this month. We don't travel rapidly...we are in the snail pace.
