Rusty On The Run

My second big mistake with him.  We had just got back from the grocery and he was anxious to get out, so I told Don to just let him out cause he wouldn’t go anywhere.  WRONG!!!  He took off like a shot.  Never looked back, just kept running and running.  Don did finally coax him into coming back to be leashed, but I won’t make that mistake again.  The first mistake I made was thinking he was completely house broken.  It’s uncanny, like he can read my mind.  I was just thinking how good he had been for the last couple of weeks, and boom, he jumps up on the bed and piddles right in the middle of it.  I was not a happy camper having to change all of the bed clothes.  My daughter told me once that her dogs will do that when they are pouting at her for some reason, so the work on breaking him continues.

We had our potluck on Saturday morning.  I guess about 40 people showed up again.  Later in the day, Nancy, Paul, Donnie and myself played a couple games of Pegs and Jokers and then a game of Mexican Train.  After playing games we all jumped in our truck and headed for Vinny’s Italian restaurant in Leakey, Texas.  Nancy and I had some pasta dishes, Paul had a very large grilled chicken salad, and Donnie had a personal pizza.  It was all very good.  We always have a great time with Paul and Nancy.  We will really miss them when we leave.

This morning two more of our friends pulled out for home in Illinois.  Winnie and Wayne wanted to get on home.  She has a brother that is quite ill and she wants to spend time with him before it is too late.  God speed you two.  Have a safe trip and hope your brother is doing better when you get home.

We have really been having some high winds this week.  They started Sunday night when we got back from playing games.  It was blowing the leaves so hard, it sounded like hail hitting the RV.  They have quieted down for now.  It has been a bit cooler also for the past few days.  Only in the 70’s instead of 80’s.

Tomorrow evening we have plans to meet a fellow blogger.  We heard from Ali and Ron last week that they would be work camping at Lone Star Coral RV Park in D’ Hanis, Texas,  and wondered if we would like to meet.  We love meeting fellow bloggers and/or readers of my blog.  We will be meeting them at their campsite, a little after 5:00 tomorrow evening for supper and conversation.  Looking forward to it.

We play games again tonight, and I am getting laundry caught up again.  Other than that, it is pretty quiet here in rural Texas.  Stay safe.  Later… :)

We have met Ali and Ron and consider them dear friends. I'm so happy that you will all be able to meet each other. Wish I could be there!

Your Rusty keeps you on your toes!

Until I got Emma, all my other dogs were well behaved, and listened to me when I told them to stay close. Not so with the current wild child!

I love the cartoon. :)

a dog adds an exciting, if not always pleasant addition to daily life. :)

I agree with Judy, all dogs no matter how well behaved can act on impulse Rigg's is well behaved but we still restrict him to his run at home or his leash until we get to the the doggie park, Sadie will run to the edge of the grass off the patio and do her thing and run back as soon as she's done. Unless we are right there to watch her she gets put on the run too. although the cable is as big as she is.Just don't want some instinct to kick in and have them run into the road.Be safe out there. A dog running off like that is always scary. Abby sticks like glue now, can't get her unstuck from Mo's leg when we go walking, but she will be an amazing escape artist if we try to put her in a kennel or cage of any kind. Glad you are having fun, and thanks for the comments you make on my blog as well.

When my kids were little I made the mistake of always wanting a dog. The kids would stand at the door and hold the screen open, and of course the dog was gone. One, a Springer Spaniel, got hit by a car and was so badly hurt I had to have her put to sleep. My last two dogs have been very good about listening, although Lady would wander off if the way is clear - not run, just meander and explore, and probably come back if I called her. My black lab was darn near perfect!

My advice, such as it is, is to research and get opinions on how to train a dog who runs. As diligent as you are there will be opportune moments for him to bolt, so don't wait too long, and good luck.

Max is a runner he will come back but he does not care about cars and will run a cross a busy road.

Love Maxine -- she always has something interesting/funny to say. I've always heard when puppies do something like piddle in the middle of your bed, they are mad at their owners for something -- maybe Rusty was upset you left him.

Maybe Rusty needs a treadmill LOL!!! It really is scary when a dog runs off. My Rusty is almost 14 but he will still chase a squirrel if the opportunity presents. He just can't go very fast or very far! Great Maxine cartoon...

I'm sitting in my parents' place now, hanging out on the couch next to our dog and being quite happy that she's not peeing on me. Time... only time. Good luck!

That is the way it works. Grace is almost 5 and I let her outside without a leash on Sunday and she chased the neighbors down the street. You think I would learn.

Rusty looks so sweet and innocent. Maybe it wasn't him that peed on the bed. I always worry when Annie escapes out the motorhome door. It's happened a couple of times and is very scary.

Sounds like you've got your new itinerary in order and will be ready to roll.

Hi Pidge, Great insightful post. Sheryl & I have been considering a small dog to accompany us in our travels. We may reconsider! lol
We hope your meeting with Ali & Ron is pleasant.

God bless!
