Changing Templates

I want to change my template, you know the background on my blog, but I am afraid I will lose everything on my site.  I would also like to know how to change the width and so forth.  I wish it would cover the whole page instead of being so narrow.  Can anyone help me with that?

I can’t go any farther in this post without saying how sorry I was to read of the tragic death of Bruce and Margie.  Such a senseless waste of two wonderful people.  Margie was one of the first to welcome me aboard when I switched to blog spot, and she always left me very uplifting comments.  My heart and prayers go out to Stephanie and their whole family.

Our life has kind of been upside down for the last few days.  Thursday I took my brother to the hospital like always and we were surprised to learn that his count was still at 8.3, so he didn’t need any blood.   So, Monday I was going after him to take him down again to be checked and when I reached him I found out that his back had started hurting him late in the evening, on Sunday,  and then his stomach.  He was experiencing terrible cramps all night and then started having dry heaves.  I wanted to take him right to the emergency room, but he wouldn’t have that.  He wanted to go right to the bone marrow unit where he gets his transfusions.  He was in so much pain, I felt sure they would give him something for it right away, but he sat there from 8:30 am till after noon with no relief.  I finally got pissed and said if they didn’t give him something soon, I would take him elsewhere.  That got the ball rolling and in about an hour he was feeling much better.

They had also not gotten his transfusion started till afternoon, so we were stuck there till after 3:00.  The Doctor had  ordered that he be admitted at 10:30am and it was 5:30 pm before he was in a room.  He was so worn out.  I have never had this kind of experience at this hospital and hope we don’t again.

They were going to run all kinds of tests on him, but decided yesterday they wouldn’t.  He has already been put through the ringer and there isn’t any test they could think of that he hasn’t already had.  So, I took him home and we will go see another Doctor on Thursday.  A hectic week so far.  They took him off of several pills he has been taking, and they think they could have been causing some of his pains.

I did hear from a Dear friend this week.  Her name his Judie and she hails from Alabama.  She has been a reader on my blog for a long time. She has been trying to join my site as a follower, but keeps having trouble.  This is the second complaint I have had about this.  I don’t know what to do about it, so maybe it is just one of those little glitches that happen now and then.  Judie is such a sweet person.  She is also having a lot of health problems, but never fails to ask about, and pray for my brother.  I am adding a picture of her and her Hubby.  Thanks for the prayers Judie..

Since I will be tied up at the hospital and then the Doctors office tomorrow, I got every thing done today that I could.   I did laundry, went to the grocery, went to Camping World and picked up our fan motor, and this afternoon we went back over to the produce stand for some more of the very good yellow apples.  Don is not a big fan of apples, unless they are stewed, but he does like the yellow ones, so I get them when possible.  I took a few pictures at the stand and will share them with you.

I just noticed I put 2 watermarks on these pictures, and here I thought I was doing so good with them.  Oh well, guess it doesn’t hurt anything.

I have a tenderloin that I am going to stick in the over for supper, and there should be plenty of leftovers for Donnie to eat again tomorrow while I am gone.  Going to get off of here and get this posted.  I will talk to you again in a few days.  Stay safe.

I have hesitated on making changes to my blog for fear of messing something up. I think your blog looks very nice. I like the gray color. Your pictures show up so nice against the neutral colors. I'm sorry your brother is having so much trouble. I'll say a prayer for him.

I am praying for your brother. I, too, hope he never has that kind of experience with the hospital again. I am glad that you can be there for him.

I like the way your Blog looks too. The fall produce is great. I like it when the farm markets have all the colourful squashes, gourd and pumpkins displayed.
I hope your brother will not have to go through that again. Good thing you spoke up.

It isn't too diffiult to change templates and I've done it one time, although it's been a while and I completely forget how. I don't think you will lose anything, and if I remember you get unlimited chances to view what you have done so far, so you can tinker with it all you like. I'm not sure if you can get a wider page though - that is one of my gripes is that it is too narrow.

Those pumpkins look so good. I usually buy one or two and make pumpkin pies this time of year, but I'm thinking I may go down to Arizona the week of Thanksgiving, so I can be back for Christmas. It will either be one holiday or another that I'm gone, and I don't celebrate any more so it doesn't matter much to me.

I'm sorry to hear that Boone isn't doing as well. Hospitals are sooooo aggravating, and make you feel worse most of the time.

You have a three column blog format. In order to make the text part wider, you have to go back to a two column format. But blogger has changed the available formats from when I did mine.
Many folks will start a second blog that is private and test things on the blog that no one can see.
I use an old format that was called minima stretch lefty. But I think with some messin around with the simple format and picking a two column layout, you can adjust the width to what you want.
Under advanced you can also pick all your colors for background and each font group like the header and date and so forth.
If you do all this on the test blog, you can make mistakes there and it won't matter.
You will not loose your written text of the blog, by making format changes, but may have to redo some of the side bar stuff, if you change formats too drastically.

I don't think you'll lose anything if you change templates. I did that some time ago and didn't lose anything. I chose a template with the widgets or gadgets or what ever they're called all on the left with the rest of the space for the blog post. Rick will probably give you more detailed instructions. :)

SO sorry to hear about your brother...sometimes life is just so difficult. Sigh...

You won't lose anything if you change templates unless you changed the HTML code itself.

First, go into design and click the HTML tab. Copy and paste everything into a text document (like Notepad) just to give yourself a little piece of mind. Worst case you can copy and paste it back in and save it.

Now click the TEMPLATE DESIGNER tab. Choose your template, then click LAYOUT to choose your columns and adjust the width of each.

Advanced lets you play with the various colors used in the template.

I've changed my blog several times and never lost anything. I even got into the advanced part and still didn't mess anything up. You'll be fine.

I have changed my blog look many times and have not lost anything. Just keep changing things till you like how they look - you can choose one column, two or three...have fun playing around with it.

Love the pumpkins...though

Oh dear Pidge, what a time you and your uncle are having! I am so sorry.
Many times it is the medicine and it's side effects, that are worse than the ailment.
I am praying they can get that sorted out soon.

I like the look of your blog. Clear, clean-cut and sets off your lovely pictures.
The writing is easy to read, not like some with dark backgrounds and thin, spidery, small colored words. That doesn't make them distinct enough for me. If they are too dificult to read, I just don't read them!

I, too have been reluctant to change mine in case I lost it. Back when I started it, it took me long enough to get it the way it is. Sometimes when bloggers change everything, you don't realize it is a familiar blog. But as Rod says, maybe a two column is what you are seeking to make the text part wider.

Thanks so much for ur comments on this ole southern girl. I'm so very sorry to hear about all the delay with Boone and the hospital but I'm sad to say that is about the norm for here in Alabama also. I've had lots of experience with it since I've been a caregiver for the past 10 years with 2 aunts and an uncle and my sweet Mother back in '93. I've never understood the reason for the delays in hospitals....we wouldn't be there if we weren't really sick and yet the wait goes on and on. Occasionaly you will encounter a good nurse, doctor or other staff member but sadly many of them look at it as just a job. It would be nice if they could treat everyone as family....I believe that would make a huge change in treatment times as well as other occurrences. The hospital and Boone's disease will take much out of you, I know there isn't a lot of time but please try to make some time for yourself each and every day, even if it's only a half hour....do something u enjoy. Replenish your spirits, emotions, and physical feelings. It will help u to give more to Boone and keep u going much longer for urself and Donny. I've been there so long, I truly know what u r going thru and my prayers continue each day for all of u. Take care of u hon, so u can take care of them. I'm here if u need a listening ear....sometimes it helps just to vent. I'll leave u my phone numbers on facebook in a message...just look at the top left corner for the red icon and u will c when u have a message. Love ya!
P. S. It wasn't this site that was giving me trouble...it was my computer settings. I had blocked all popups...I went in and unblocked for this site only and have had no trouble since.
