Trail End Historic Site, Sheridan, Wyoming

We decided last Saturday to try and get down to The Silver Spur for breakfast on a week-day morning, because it is always packed on the week end.  It is a tiny little place, but full of character.  Mostly old cowboys and ranchers were in there, and they even allowed smoking, which is a no, no in most places nowadays.   The food certainly wasn’t anything to write home about, but the service was great and we enjoyed the experience.  They also have outside dining.

They only have six tables on the inside and then these two very large tables outside.

When we left there, with our tummy’s full, we decided to drive up to the Trail End Historic Site.  Trail End was the home of John B. Kendrick (1857-1933), former Wyoming Governor and United States Senator.  Born in Texas, Kendrick was orphaned at an early age and raised by relatives until he went out on his own at age fifteen.  He came to Wyoming Territory for the first time in 1879, as a trail rider on a cattle drive.

In 1891, at the age of thirty-four, Kendrick married eighteen-year-old Eula Wulfjen ( 1872-1961) in Greely, Colorado.  For the next eighteen years, they lived on the OW ranch in southeastern Montana.  This property was the start of what later became the Kendrick Cattle Company, a 210,000-acre collection of cattle ranches in northern Wyoming and Southern Montana (the ranchlands were sold by the family in 1989).

They had two children Rosa-Maye and Manville.  Manville eventually took over management of the ranches, Rosa-Maye married an Army officer and spent most of her adult life away from Wyoming. If you would like to read more go to http://www.trailend.org/ .

I took loads of pictures today, but won’t bore you with many.  It is a very interesting property and a “must see”, if you are in the area.

We had not been home very long, and I had just fixed lunch and I got a great surprise.  A reader knocked on the door and introduced himself.  Nick and his wife are living in Casper, Wyoming right now, but he says he travels with his company from Canada to Texas.  He works for an Oil and Gas company. They want to start full-timing, but can’t afford to right now.  It is such a nice surprise when something like this happens.  We decided that when we meet again we will all go out for a meal.  Thanks again Nick, you made my day.

Thanks for all the comments yesterday, and a special thanks to BamaGurl.  I will certainly give my son your message.
Just a reminder that you can click on the pictures for a larger view.
You all stay safe out there… :)

I would say that Trail End looks like a gorgeous place, but my favorite would be your neighbors. I wish I had neighbors like that!

Enjoy your posts, especially when you are traveling. Looks like you are experimenting with fonts and I had a hard time with todays font. For those of us who are a little hard of seeing the type on Mondays post works best. Thanks for your blog.
